Allegations against cabbie rapist must be reassessed

-

WITH every day that passes the decision to release serial sex attacker John Worboys looks more grotesque. Rape is a crime that destroys lives and yet not only has this terrible man served a mere nine years but a really shocking 93 further cases were never actually brought to trial.

These cases should be reassessed immediately and, if they can be prosecuted, they should.

It is utterly appalling that such a man should be released. Worboys’ behaviour was both premeditated and compulsive: he took a kit with him to carry out his attacks while the sheer scale of his offending beggars belief.

We know of 105 complaints that have been made against him: why were these not taken further? The Crown Prosecution Service has many questions to answer here.

We live in an age where the police waste time and money investigating so-called crimes committed by public figures who are long dead and so unable to answer their case.

But when we have a man who is still very much alive and convicted of the most dreadful crimes, we are allowing him to be released.

Something has gone profoundly awry with our justice system and we owe it to Worboys’ victims and anyone who has suffered from such horrible crimes to put it right.
