I’m the one you want, Forest
AITOR KARANKA claims he is the man to end Nottingham Forest’s hire-and-fire culture.
The former Middlesbrough manager says he is sure he will see out his two-and-a-half-year deal at the City Ground.
The Spaniard is Forest’s 10th manager in five and a half years but is confident he will not pay with his job if he fails to win promotion this season. But Karanka said he has had no promises from Forest’s new owners that he will not become the latest boss to suffer a quickfire sacking.
“The only assurance I have is my work,” said Karanka, 44. “They wanted me because they know me as a person and a coach.
“I have come here because I trust them. The past is the past and we have to concentrate on the future.
“In football you can never promise anything. There are 46 games in the Championship but I’m really confident we will have an amazing relationship and with the club in the highest position.
“The target is to get promotion because the chairman and the owners are ambitious and the club deserves that ambition. But I have signed for two and a half years, as I did at Middlesbrough, and it’s important to be patient to take things step by step because we have two and a half years to get it done.
“If it’s this season, perfect, if it’s the second or third season then perfect too. It is not a problem for me.”
“I was at Real Madrid and if you can’t master pressure there, it’s impossible.”
