Hola, Carlota! Princess is learning Spanish

- By Richard Palmer

PRINCESS Charlotte will not be three until May but she has already started speaking Spanish thanks to her nanny.

The fourth in line to the throne, who began nursery school on Monday, is a chatty, confident little girl who is full of energy, according to sources who know the family.

Her smattering of Spanish is thought to include the words for hello, good morning and goodbye (hola, buenos dias and adios).

She and her big brother Prince George have a Spanish nanny, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, who has been with the family since George, now four-and-a-half, was a baby.

But it is not just Ms Borrallo, who trained at the prestigious Norland College for nannies, who has taught Charlotte the lingo.

During a royal visit to a farm her mother Duchess of Cambridge, 36, told a Spanish-speaking girl that she was trying to teach her daughter, Carlota in Spanish, a few words too.

A nine-year-old called Sayanna revealed after Kate’s trip to Wick Court farm in Arlingham, Gloucestershire: “She said she is trying to teach Charlotte Spanish.

“She also said that her son George could count up to 10 in Spanish already.”

Earlier this week, a source told a US magazine that Charlotte “is so polite, but also fun and energetic”.

The same source said: “She has beautiful manners. She’s very sweet and very confident – she’s always chatting away.”

Last month reports surfaced claiming that Charlotte has already started tennis lessons at one of the country’s most exclusive clubs, the Hurlingham in Fulham, west London.

Despite her small stature, sources described the toddler as a “natural tennis player”.

But while Charlotte is making great progress some club regulars are apparently not thrilled she is having tuition there. According to reports, they are unhappy about the fact that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are not club members.
