Moyes: Make it deals week

- Harry Talbot

DAVID MOYES has called for the transfer window to be squeezed into a single week and deadline day to be turned into an Italianstyle hotel bun fight.

West Ham manager Moyes joked Arsenal’s Theo Walcott was either “No31 or No32” on a list of players linked with them so far this month, with Anderlecht midfielder Leander Dendoncker and Russia striker Fyodor Smolov also touted as bound for the Hammers.

“I don’t think we need a month – we should probably take it down to a week and then we wouldn’t have all the problems,” said Moyes. “A week where the work has to get done and if it doesn’t then you don’t do it. It can be unsettling for players.

“In Italy all the clubs come to the same hotel for one day, all the chief execs, people, and do the transfer business in the one day.”

The Hammers go to Huddersfield today with Terriers striker Laurent MOYES Depoitre telling how a key conversation with manager David Wagner spurred him on.

Belgian Depoitre arrived from Porto in the summer for a then club-record £3.5million and struggled to adapt.

But after a slow start, he has become their top scorer in the Premier League and said: “When I arrived I knew I wasn’t ready.

“I wasn’t fit enough as I hadn’t played for a lot of months. In pre-season I had some difficulties but I spoke to the manager and he explained why I wasn’t in the team.

“I’ve had some managers who don’t speak to players, especially if you’re not playing. So you don’t know why you’re not in the team. Even if you are playing well you don’t feel confident.

“But this manager is open to having a discussion with you.”
