WILLY CABALLERO was the penalty shootout hero as nine-man Chelsea survived an almighty scare last night.

The Blues goalkeeper saved Norwich’s penalty from Nelson Oliveira and with everyone else finding the net, Eden Hazard rolled in the decisive spot-kick to send Antonio Conte’s men into the fourth round.

This followed a dramatic extra-time which saw Chelsea finish with nine men as Pedro and Alvaro Morata both saw red in the final minutes.

After waiting 349 minutes for a goal, Michy Batshuayi found the target for Chelsea 10 minutes into the second half of normal last night and it looked like it would be enough to see off Norwich’s bold FA Cup ambitions. However, Jamal AT STAMFORD BRIDGE faulty Tube train and at least any Chelsea fans stuck in the dark tunnels underground could take solace from the vast number of Canaries down there with them, on their way to cheer on the away team.

Nine changes from the side that faced the Foxes at least made the “tiredness” excuse redundant and a sprightly Danny Drinkwater fired a shot inches wide early on.

When Tiemoue Bakayoko flicked on a Kenedy corner, Cesar Azpilicueta just needed a touch to score, but somehow he managed to completely misjudge his lunge.

The hosts came closest to opening the scoring in the 25th minute, when another longrange effort from Drinkwater was tipped onto the underside of the bar by Angus Gunn, but from that moment it was Norwich who finally began to emerge from their shells. Oliveira grazed the top of the bar with a similar strike from distance, but it was clear that something more dynamic was needed to spark fire into the encounter.

To that end, Chelsea are considering investing in the ultimate Plan B, Andy Carroll, with West Ham understood to be ready to do business for their talented but injury-prone striker for somewhere in the region of £20million.

Chelsea gave fringe players a chance but few were pressing their cause as half-time was reached without any further serious threat to either goal.

The second period continued in similar vein until Batshuayi scored in the most mundane of circumstances. Kenedy’s low cross evaded the attempted block by Norwich skipper Ivo Pinto and the Chelsea striker
