Daring William opts for shaved heir look

- By John Chapman

PRINCE William caused a buzz yesterday when he showcased his new shaven haircut.

The long, floppy blond fringe of his teenage years is now just a distant memory.

The 35-year-old has always been conscious of his receding hairline and has been the butt of jokes from both his brother Harry and wife Kate.

The new crop, according to admirers, makes his thinning hair less obvious and appears to make him look younger too. William stepped out sporting the closely trimmed style as he celebrated the national rollout of the Step Into Health programme at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital.

The scheme is designed to funnel the skills and experience of exservicemen and women gained in the Army, Royal Navy and RAF for the benefit of the health service. During his hospital visit, William could be seen bobbing down to chat to a little girl in a wheelchair called Amy, and was overheard telling her that his daughter Charlotte “loves sparkly things” and would love the pink sparkly shoes she had on.

While chatting to a Second World War veteran in Barbados several years ago, Harry remarked that William “was already bald aged 12”.

In 2014, the Duchess of Cambridge suggested the perfect solution for her husband’s growing bald patch – an alpaca toupee.

As they visited the Sydney Royal Easter Show, Kate was shown a tuft of alpaca wool which was a similar shade of brown to the Duke’s hair.

She pointed to William’s head, remarking: “You need it more than me.”

Bookmakers William Hill are now offering odds of 6/4 that William will go for a totally shaved head for Harry’s wedding.
