About time! Mercury to soar to 57F next week
BRITAIN is about to warm up as Arctic conditions give way to a burst of milder weather after the weekend.
Forecasters have revealed that snow, ice and freezing winds will be replaced by widespread double-digit temperatures.
The mercury will nudge 57F (14C) in parts by the middle of next week although those hoping for sunshine will be disappointed.
Much of the country will stay grey and unsettled with bouts of wet and windy weather.
It will follow another bitterly cold weekend with widespread frosts and snow forecast across Scotland and northern England.
Met Office spokesman Grahame Madge said: “We now have signals for a change in the weather with a front extending from the Atlantic bringing a sector of warm air to the UK.
“It is not a quick transition though and as this milder, moist air meets cold conditions across the country it will trigger further snowfall this weekend.
“This will mostly affect Scotland and northern Britain although we could see wintry showers over high ground further south.”
Warm air will nudge into the South today and through tomorrow although the North will be slower to catch up, he said.
Much of the country will wake to another bitterly cold morning today after temperatures were expected to drop to -10C last night.
Mr Madge added: “It will be another very cold night into Saturday and this will bring further frosts and the risk of icy stretches.” An icy pond was a hazard for this duck in Leeds
