THE Spice Girls were back together for the first time in six years yesterday, delighting fans and revealing “the future is looking spicy”.
Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton and Melanie Chisholm were seen arriving at Geri Horner’s north London home for the reunion meeting.
“Ginger Spice” Geri, 45, and “Sporty” Mel C, 44, were the first to arrive. “Scary” Mel B, 42, jetted in from LA, and “Posh” Victoria, 43, arrived in the back of a chauffeur-driven car.
While a full-scale singing tour could be off the table, projects considered include a compilation album of their greatest hits, hosting a televised talent contest, endorsing products and working on shows in China – with each expecting a £10million payout.
Victoria confirmed the reunion, sharing a picture of them as a five-piece on Instagram shortly afterwards, with the caption: “Love my girls!!! So many kisses!!! X Exciting x.”
Emma shared the same photo, adding: “Great catch up with my girls! #bffs always. The future is looking spicy.” And Geri posted: “Lovely seeing the girls #girlpower is alive and well.”
It is the first time they have been together as a group since the London 2012 Olympics.
A source said: “This is the pop reunion no one thought would ever happen again. But after a long period of negotiation Victoria agreed the time is right to work on new projects this year.”
Simon Fuller, the girl band’s former manager, is believed to be behind the reunion.
The group became one of the biggest brands of the 1990s, selling more than 55 million records, with hits like Wannabe, Say You’ll Be There and 2 Become 1. A movie, Spice World, followed in 1997.
Since London 2012, the girls have gone their separate ways, pursuing careers in showbiz and fashion, but Geri admitted in October that she had been trying to get the group to reunite.
WE’LL tell you what we want, what we really, really want: a little bit of sunshine back in our lives. And so a big thank-you to the ever youthful Spice Girls, who burst on to the scene fizzing with energy over 20 years ago and are coming back to do the same today.
