The ‘miracle’ is on for Carvalhal

- Harry Talbot

CARLOS CARVALHAL is full of positivity that his Swansea side are in revival mode despite yesterday’s news that both Leroy Fer and Wilfried Bony will miss the rest of the season.

The Swans were rock bottom at Christmas with three wins from 20 games when Carvalhal took over.

But they have now suffered just one defeat in nine since his arrival. Carvalhal said: “When I arrived at my first press conference, the word everyone was using was

‘miracle’. We knew exactly what the situation was – we were dead. But suddenly we started breathing.

“We are in a positive moment. My team showed again we do not just have commitment, we have the belief we can turn it around.”

However, the problems keep mounting with Fer and Bony both requiring surgery, on Achilles and anterior cruciate ligament injuries respectively.

When Jamie Vardy shot Leicester into the lead in the 17th minute, this looked a routine home win. But Federico Fernandez cashed in on dire marking to grab a 53rd-minute equaliser.

Whether Riyad Mahrez would have made a difference is hard to say but Leicester winger Marc Albrighton says the dressing room will accept him back with open arms, after he pushed for a move to Manchester City. “It’s down to us in the meantime to do what we get paid to do, and that’s turn up and perform to the best of our ability,” said Albrighton.
