Reality: Bargain-Loving Brits In The Sun, 8pm, Channel 5

Sheffield retirees Phil (left) and Jackie are known for their colourful, matching outfits and tonight they scour the charity shops for more crazy clothing bargains. Dog rescuer Linda is worried about sick pup Donny while the opening night of Dave and Tony’s Mexican restaurant looks like being a washout when the rain pours down. The bad weather is also putting a dampener on the Friday night barbecue bar owners Lisa and Tia had arranged.

Soap: Emmerdale, 7pm and 8pm, BBC1

Sandy (Freddie Jones, above right) does his best to hide his true feelings when Maisie (Wendy Craig, above left) reveals she is planning to leave the following day. But when she hands him an envelope with tickets to Australia inside it, he is left at a loss as to what to do. Tracy is concerned when she receives flowers that she thinks were sent to her by Phil while Aaron has a decision of his own to make.

We are all familiar with the concept of love at first sight – two people make eye contact for the very first time and instantly get a feeling deep inside that tells them the person they are looking at is the one they want to spend the rest of their life with. This romantic reality experiment returns tonight as experts select compatible couples from a list of applicants then invite them to marry on their first meeting. Gulp! First of all, the singles need to persuade their friends and family that marrying a stranger is not a completely crazy idea. Then comes the ultimate test – how will they react when their wedding day arrives and they first set eyes on one another? Will Steph and Ben (left) live happily ever after?

Drama: Death In Paradise, 9pm, BBC1

In the penultimat­e episode of the series, Jack Mooney (Ardal O’Hanlon, above centre) finds that someone from JP’s past has been caught redhanded at a murder scene, raking up old memories for the young officer. But can the Irish detective unravel the complex mystery to get to the truth? Tobi Bakare and Danny John-Jules co-star, with guest appearance­s from Ralph Brown and Adjoa Andoh.

Documentar­y: The Job Interview, 10pm, C4

Spread over the next six weeks, this series follows an assortment of jobseekers as they interview for real-life positions. Virgin Trains recruitmen­t duo Diego (right) and Kathryn are looking for someone to bring sparkle to the role of serving drinks and snacks on the West Coast Main Line, while at cosmetics brand Ciaté London, founder Charlotte and marketing director Caroline want to bring someone into the business to boost their online promotion.
