Cheryl changes channels for TV comeback

- By Mark Reynolds

CHERYL is set to make her prime-time TV comeback on new BBC show The Greatest Dancer later this year.

The singer-turned-TV judge, 34, was this week at the Hammersmith Apollo in London, taking part in a run through in her role as a “dance captain”.

She was spotted taking pictures with fans on Tuesday evening, joined by fellow celebrities Alesha Dixon, Diversity dancer Jordan Banjo, Glee star Matthew Morrison and Strictly’s professional dancer Oti Mabuse.

It is expected Cheryl will also sit on The Greatest Dancer’s judging panel.

A source said: “Cheryl’s always been associated with ITV.

“She was made a star by Popstars: The Rivals.

“Moving to the BBC is a huge deal for her. It’s a trial run at this point. But everyone is hoping it’ll get the green light.

“She’s going to be the star of the show.”

The Apollo rehearsals also gave the stars the opportunity to make a pilot.

Should it get the go ahead, it is unclear when the series will air or whether it will clash with The X Factor.

The ITV show’s host Dermot O’Leary seemed to confirm Cheryl would be returning to the judging panel this year, but this has not been confirmed.

Her appearance on a rival channel may not be as surprising as it initially appears, however... Syco – Simon Cowell’s company – is also behind the BBC show.

Cheryl is getting back to work following the birth of her child, Bear, last year with One Direction singer Liam Payne, 24.
