Edward’s girl hurt in fall on family ski trip

- By John Chapman

BUMPS, bruises and sprains are hazards on any family ski trip... and there were no exceptions yesterday for Prince Edward and wife Sophie’s children.

Their daughter Louise’s fun was cut painfully short by a tumble which later saw her hobbling around the glitzy Swiss resort of St Moritz on crutches.

It is believed the 14-year-old might have fractured her leg.

Smiling and grimacing as she put on a brave face, the young royal was supported by resort staff as she changed out of her ski gear and into a casual jacket.

Buckingham Palace has refused to comment on the injury which however did not stop the rest of the family from having fun in the snow while enjoying brilliant sunshine.

Edward and Sophie had been joined by their children – James, Viscount Severn, 10, and Lady Louise Windsor – for a winter break on the upmarket slopes which are a playground for the rich and famous.

The family has always enjoyed skiing trips.

The Countess of Wessex, 53, made the most of the fresh powder by whizzing down the slopes clad in a sleek black ski jacket and goggles. She and the Earl of Wessex were spotted on the chairlift where the couple could be seen smiling and chatting as they admired the stunning views during the half-term break.

Temperatures in St Moritz are hovering around zero (32F) this week with light snowfall.

Protect

Edward wrapped himself in a bright red ski jacket and had a pair of sunglasses under his helmet to protect from the glare as they navigated the runs.

The upmarket enclave is favoured by celebrities including John Travolta, Liz Hurley and Ivana Trump as well as a string of royals.

But the winter break is coming to an end with former businesswoman Sophie involved with a string of royal duties this week.

She is hosting a Commonwealth fashion reception and a Charities Forum meeting at Buckingham Palace.
