Paddling pool chic and ‘Trumpettos’ ... it’s fashion week
A BUDDING designer set out to make a splash at London Fashion Week by sending a model down the catwalk wearing a paddling pool.
“Think I’ll ‘lilo’ if these ever hit shops,” joked a critic on Twitter.
The inflatable outfit was just one of the wacky designs by Edwin Mohney, a BA fashion graduate at Central Saint Martins, in London.
Another of his mannequins at the British Fashion Council show space on Friday sported “Trumpettos” – a grotesque pair of shoes modelled on President Donald Trump’s face.
Echoing President Trump’s rallying cry to make America Great Again, the New York designer’s mission statement was to “make fashion great again”.
Practicality was not Mohney’s main aim but his collection was an immediate hit on Instagram.
Many praised the Trump platforms, with one commenting: “when fashion becomes political”.
One fashionista found the Trump platforms “genuinely horrifying”.
Revered
However, some more down-toearth fashion fans took to Twitter to express bewilderment: “Looks like they ran out of practical ideas!” wrote one.
Another model wore a dress that seemed to comprise paper plates.
Elite college Central St Martins has launched the careers of fashion greats such as Alexander McQueen, Christopher Kane and Stella McCartney.
And London Fashion Week showcases the best of British designs.
This year it featured the last-ever show by designer Christopher Bailey at the helm of Burberry.
He is revered for steering the British brand from raincoats to high fashion, with campaigns fronted by models Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell and actresses Keira Knightley and Emma Watson.
