SPEEDY HIGHLIGHTS

Getting highlights used to mean hours spent in the salon waiting for them to develop.

However, an innovative new treatment is set to change that. With Instant Highlights by L’Oreal Professionel, you can update your colour in seconds.

“Because people’s lives are so busy, there is an increasing demand for speedier services and we can now create bespoke looks in less than half the time,” says colourist Anna Short at Daniel Galvin.

The process is simple. First a lightening cream is applied to up to 15 sections of hair, which are then covered in foils.

Next a specially designed hair iron is applied over the foil. This heats each section for 15 to 30 seconds, depending on how light you want to go.

The foils are then removed and your highlights are ready – all in less than an hour.

From £32. Visit lorealprofessionnel. co.uk/salonlocator to find your nearest salon.

COOL COLOUR

The trend for experimental hair colour is bigger than ever this year so why not embrace the shade of the moment – silver.

“Silver hair is on trend because it flatters all skin tones and ages,” says stylist Amy Fish of Larry King London.

Now it’s easier than ever to try the trend thanks to Redken’s Shades EQ salon hair gloss treatment.

Available in silver and steel shades, the glosses give an all-over touch of colour that lasts for 20 washes. Available nationwide, prices start at £30. Visit redken.co.uk to find your nearest salon.

The other top colour trend for spring is brunette, says Mathew Soobroy, principal stylist at Charles Worthington.

“Look to fashion icons Cindy Crawford and Victoria Beckham for inspiration,” he says.

“The key to success is finding the perfect tone to suit your skin, whether it’s chocolate for a cooler complexion or chestnut for warmer skin tones.”

GO BLUNT

Forget beachy waves and waistlength tresses, this year is all about the blunt bob.

On the Jeremy Scott catwalk at New York Fashion Week, layered hair was nowhere to be seen and in its place were sharper, edgier, above-shoulder styles.

“You’re looking for a cut that’s precise and above the shoulder, roughly halfway between your ears and the nape of the neck,” says Ghd ambassador, stylist Adam Reed.

“Done correctly, it will do wonders for your bone structure. Plus it’s low-maintenance and easy to style, which is why I think it’ll be popular.”

AT-HOME HERO

Visiting a salon to cover your greys is both time-consuming and expensive. However over-the-counter DIY hair dyes can often leave a lot to be desired.

Thankfully help is at hand as hair colourist to the stars Josh Wood has launched a new collection of permanent hair colour that promises professional results from the comfort of your own home.

Josh has ensured that choosing the right colour is easy by developing a clever online tool at joshwoodcolour.com that asks questions about hair type and the result you’re looking for.

Once you’ve chosen your shade, the box contains everything you need for a DIY ’do including barrier cream to protect your skin from stains, a clear step-by-step guide and fitted gloves to ensure mess-free and precise application. Genius.

And the best bit? It costs just £10. Available at Boots stores nationwide and at boots.com.
