Italy is also proving popular for bookings.

A typical UK wedding costs £27,000 rising to £38,000 for London, compared with the average cost of one abroad of £7,500, according to Kuoni.

Three top venues are Greece’s Santorini Gem beach bar, Malcesine Castle on Lake Garda in Italy and a treehouse in the Lion Sands Game Reserve in South Africa.

The Kuoni report states: “Princess Eugenie getting engaged in Nicaragua highlights a growing trend for couples, with engagement trips one of the fastest growing areas.”
