Hammers facing fine

- Tony Paskin

WEST HAM have been charged by the Football Association with a breach of anti-doping rules that could result in a substantial fine.

The FA said West Ham are alleged to have “failed to ensure their club whereabouts information was accurate on three occasions within 12 months”.

Clubs are required to keep the FA informed of their players’ location in order to facilitate drug-testing.

West Ham have until February 27 to respond and say oversights are behind the charge, rather than any offence by a player. “The breach relates to administrative oversights on the FA’s whereabouts system,” said West Ham in a statement. “For example, a player’s address had been registered and the house number digits transposed.

“We would like to make it clear that the breach is a club administrative matter and does not concern any of our players.” ALFIE MAWSON has handed Swansea a fitness boost.

The England Under-21 centre-back was a late withdrawal from his team’s goalless FA Cup draw with Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday after his knee locked in the warm-up.

MRI scans have shown the 24-year-old’s injury is not serious and he is set to return to full training with Carlos Carvalhal’s men ahead of Saturday’s trip to Brighton. PHIL NEVILLE has named Anita Asante in his first England Women’s squad, giving the defender her first call-up since 2015 ahead of next month’s SheBelieves Cup in the US.
