CONCERNS that the Labour leadership plans to impose a Communist ideology on Britain have been heightened by revelations that John McDonnell is to speak at a Marxist event.

The shadow chancellor’s speech “Into the 21st Century: Marxism as a force of change today” will mark the bicentenary of Karl Marx’s birth.

Details emerged after revelations that Jeremy Corbyn met a self-confessed Czechoslovak Communist agent during the Cold War.

Conservatives warned that it shows the true face of Labour under its hard-Left leadership.

MP David Morris said: “It is beyond belief that Labour’s shadow chancellor thinks Marxism, a failed ideology that led to the impoverishment and deaths of millions, can be

a ‘force for change today’. It shows how wildly out of touch the Labour Party has become and how damaging they would be for our economy and working people.”

MP Daniel Kawczynski, who as a boy fled Communist Poland to come to Britain, said: “I am afraid Labour has been taken over by extremists, having historically been social democrats who opposed Communism.

“If there were to be a Labour government it would be the closest we have come to having a Communist ideology imposed in our country.

“To people like me who lost friends and family to governments that espoused ideology that would be unacceptable.”

Commemorations of Karl Marx’s birth have already provoked outrage, with European Commission President JeanClaude Juncker condemned for planning to unveil a statue to the political philosopher in his birthplace of Trier in Germany.

Marion Smith, director of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, said: “Marxist states like the Soviet Union and Communist China are responsible for more than one hundred million deaths as a result of their insane quest to implement Marx’s utopian ideas in practice.”

Mr McDonnell’s spokesman said: “John McDonnell attends many academic conferences on a range of subjects.” that completely
