Joyce & Philip’s lives are back on song thanks to Amplifon

ACTIVE couple Joyce Lane and Philip Barker can enjoy their beloved music again thanks to the latest hearing aid technology. The pair, who met six years ago, are amazed how they can hear every note played at concerts and gigs since getting help with their hearing loss from Amplifon, a global hearing specialist.

Joyce has been suffering with hearing problems for some time, but Philip only realised how badly his own hearing was affected when he started going along to her hearing appointments with her.

An ex member of the armed forces he admits: “I knew I had a hearing problem from my early army days but I was in denial, I think. I had ‘old-people-wear-hearing-aids’ syndrome so I thought they weren’t for me.

Eventually, however, Joyce persuaded Philip to have a hearing test himself at one of Amplifon’s 200 UK centres.

And Philip was amazed by how thorough and revealing it was.

He recalls: “Ben, my audiologist, explained the problem and showed me pictures of the inside of my ears.”

Philip was also pleasantly surprised by the range of discreet hearing aids available.

He adds: “Like a lot of people, my perception of hearing aids was that they were big things that stuck on the side of your head.

“But Ben made the suggestion that we match the hearing aids to the colour of my hair!”

Philip took up the offer of a free hearing aid trial and was impressed by how they performed when he attended a rock ‘n’ roll music concert, where he used his iPhone to control the volume on his aids.

He explains: “The difference was unbelievable, and it was like being back at school and studying music. I could literally pick out every sound from different instruments as they were played.

“I’d been to concerts before and I got the music and the beat but I would miss some notes, some of the vocals and the instruments. That’s all changed now.”

And technology fan Philip was delighted to discover he can also use the same app to control his new hearing aids from his iWatch.
