Shoppers get knickers in a twist over M&S pants
A BLOOMER in the redesign of its popular ladies’ briefs has sparked a mini mutiny among Marks & Spencer customers.
The retailer made some alterations to its top-selling Bridget Jones-style cotton undies – including moving the seam from the front to the side.
But store bosses made a big mistake thinking women would take the changes to their favourite big knickers – made famous in the film starring Renee Zellweger – in their stride.
The company’s website was bombarded with complaints from customers demanding the return of the original pants with their generous cut.
One reviewer said: “They were perfect fit before and so comfortable! Please could M&S go back to the seam at the front!” Another added: “Old version was M&S knicker redesign that sparked controversy, left. Of the new design, she said: “The seam arrangement had changed so that they were raised seams at the sides. They were also cut so that the side of the knickers was a lot smaller.
“The thing they had in common was the fabric and the fact that they were knickers – but not much else.”
Now bosses have promised to bring back the old knickers later this year.
They also gave Dinah a bespoke run of six pairs of knickers in the original style.
A spokeswoman said: “Our loyal customers are very important to us. We looked into this and decided to change the knickers back to the original style lines following her valuable feedback.
“As a gesture of goodwill we are making the customer some in her size until we can get them into stores again.”
