Three men held over deadly shop explosion

THREE men were arrested last night on suspicion of manslaught­er after an explosion in a shop which left five people missing.

Police have been investigat­ing the blast that destroyed a Polish grocery and the flat above it in Leicester on Sunday evening.

The suspects, all in their 30s, were last night being quizzed by detectives. But police have ruled out any motive related to terrorism.

Three members of the same family – care worker Mary Ragoobeer, 46, and her two sons Shane, 18, and Sean, 17 – are all feared dead following the explosion.

They lived Zabka store.

Shane’s girlfriend Leah Beth Reek, 18, and shop worker Viktorija Ljevleva, 22, are also thought to have died.

One person taken to hospital after the blast remains in a critical condition.

A Leicesters­hire Police statement said: “The three men, all in their 30s, are being in the Feared dead... Leah Beth Reek, 18 flat above the questioned by detectives. One man comes from East Anglia, the second from the North-west of the country and the third from the East Midlands. “No further details will be released about these individual­s at this stage. “We acknowledg­e that the terrible events of Sunday night have attracted significan­t public, political and media interest. “While we will not disclose further details at this stage, we stress that there remains no evidence that the events of Sunday night are in any way terrorist-related.” It has been revealed that Ms Reek had been volunteeri­ng at the Loros Hospice, which serves Leicesters­hire, since September. She was recently nominated for the Lord-Lieutenant’s Young Volunteer Of The Year award. Four other people injured in the blast were discharged from hospital.
