‘Spiderman’ prisoner escapes jail by scaling wall in just 26 seconds
A CONVICTED child sex offender was filmed escaping from jail by scaling a wall “like Spiderman” in a feat that took him just 26 seconds.
Gintautas Urbonas, 52, fled prison in Peterborough by running ahead of a group being escorted from the gym and climbing the high wall.
CCTV footage showed him scaling the boundary at 6pm on January 26, Cambridgeshire Police said.
Urbonas hauled himself above a closed door, went up a pipe and on to a light, then scrambled over razor wire to a satellite dish with pigeon spikes on it and on to the jail roof.
He went along the roof, jumped down on to a lower wall and dropped to the ground before running off through the staff car park.
The prisoner, who was less than a year into a 12-year sentence for the attempted rape of a child and child abduction, was captured two days later following an anonymous tip-off.
When officers arrived to arrest him in a house in Peterborough, Urbonas said he had called them himself.
He admitted escaping lawful custody at Cambridge Crown Court on Tuesday and had 16 months added to his sentence.
Detective Constable Rob Sansom said: “The pressure that was applied through the manhunt for Urbonas left him no choice but to hand himself in.
“I would like to thank members of the public who got behind our appeal.”
