Big Roar over Katy’s poster

-

KATY PERRY has faced a barrage of abuse after posting a picture of the national coat of arms to announce a concert in Barcelona, provoking the wrath of pro-independence Catalans who view the region as being separate to Spain.

Taking to Instagram to announce her gig at the city’s indoor arena of Palau Sant Jordi the 33-year-old posted a video with the coat of arms in front of the red and yellow colours of the Spanish flag with the message: “Trust and believe I’m coming for you too Barcelona. See you June 28.”

Political tensions in the region remain high after the Spanish government imposed direct control there after Catalonia’s leaders organised an independence referendum that was later ruled illegal. Sacked Catalan president

remains exiled in Belgium while several other politicians and activists are in prison and some locals took to social media to voice their displeasure. “What an idiotic woman. You’re coming to Catalonia not Spain,” said one. Another even suggested she might struggle to sell tickets following her apparent faux pas, saying: “With what you’ve just done I don’t think a lot of people are going to come to your concert.”

However some pro-union Spaniards came to the Roar singer’s defence with one saying in response to the separatists: “Shut your mouth. Catalonia is Spain.”

Another, disputing the notion of independence entirely, said: “Look at your passports and ID cards. What do they say?”

SINGER PALOMA FAITH will headline this year’s Glastonbury Extravaganza. While the famous festival at Worthy Farm in Somerset is taking a break to let the land recover, organisers MICHAEL EAVIS and his daughter EMILY have roped in the singer to perform at the nearby Glastonbury Abbey building. “We’re very pleased to announce that the amazing Paloma Faith will headline this year’s Glastonbury Abbey Extravaganza on Saturday August 4,” says an official announcement on Glastonbury’s Twitter page. Glastonbury Abbey puts on the low-key event annually. Paloma, 36, will be following in esteemed footsteps with the likes of BRIAN WILSON, VAN MORRISON, SIR RAY DAVIES, ROBERT PLANT and BRYAN FERRY all performing at the intimate outdoor venue in previous years. The main festival, Glastonbury proper, returns in 2019.
