Murray plans court action

ANDY MURRAY is set to return to the court later this month after recovering better than expected from hip surgery.

The Scot finally went under the knife in Melbourne in January after sitting out of competitiv­e tennis since last year’s Wimbledon. The grass-court season remains the target for Murray’s return but, after working in the gym, he may look for some sort of challenge before that gets underway in June.

World No1 last summer, Murray has slipped to No21 during his inactivity and is refusing to put an exact date on his return. But he has been back in the gym working hard on the bike, climbing machine, using weights and doing regular pilates sessions. And he is eyeing some point at the end of March to start hitting balls again.

According to Boris Becker, the 30-year-old will be welcomed back to the tour with open arms.

“Tennis needs him,” he said. “Once he’s fully fit, Andy is one of the best players in the world. Then it’s a question of time. How much time are you going to give yourself to come back to the level you had before?” LEEDS RHINOS prop Keith Galloway has retired from playing with immediate effect after two serious Achilles injuries.

The 32-year-old former Australia internatio­nal arrived from Wests Tigers at the start of 2016 and suffered a tendon rupture in the penultimat­e game of that season. He battled back from that last year only to suffer another season-ending Achilles injury in July. and Eurosport. A World Snooker spokespers­on said the footage was reviewed but said: “No action will be taken as there is nothing audible and the footage is not conclusive.”

O’Sullivan, who had threatened to snub the World Championsh­ip to present a TV show in Australia, did appear to reassure fans he will be at the Crucible.

He said: “You can’t put all your eggs in one basket and I don’t just play snooker – but I probably will have a go.”
