Farrell and Wilson in the clear
OWEN FARRELL and Ryan Wilson have escaped censure over the Murrayfield tunnel dust-up which preceded Saturday’s Calcutta Cup game.
A Six Nations investigation concluded that while there had been physical contact between opposing players it did not amount to violent conduct and so no action will be taken.
However, both England and Scotland have been reminded of their responsibilities as regards behaviour and Eddie Jones confirmed yesterday he has addressed the matter with Farrell.
“I’ve definitely spoken to Owen but that’s the end of the matter, it’s done and dusted,” said Jones.
“We’ll leave it to those people to decide those things. They’ve made their decision so it is obviously the correct decision.”
The Six Nations probe found “some evidence of pushing and shoving in the tunnel”, but “no clear evidence of violent conduct or similar against any individual player”.
“Accordingly, Six Nations Rugby will be writing to the SRU and the RFU to remind them and their respective players of their obligations to uphold the reputation of the tournament at all times.”
Wilson was also cleared of making contact with the eye area of Nathan Hughes at a separate hearing.
A Six Nations disciplinary panel judged the first-half incident “reckless rather than intentional”. The verdict means the Scotland No8 is free to play against Ireland in Dublin a week on Saturday.
SALE full-back Mike Haley, who played for England last May, will move to Munster next season to chase a place in Ireland’s World Cup squad.
Haley, 23, came off the bench for England against the Barbarians at Twickenham last May but can switch allegiance to the land of his grandmother as caps were not awarded for the match.
