Questions put to the student in suburbia

-

AHMED HASSAN admitted he was “trained to kill” by Islamic State in an interview with Home Office officials, the Old Bailey has heard.

Here are notes of his immigration interview at Lunar House in Croydon, south London, in January 2016, taken by Zoe Spencer, who was partly responsible for his care at the time: QUESTION: Have you ever had any training with Isis [IS] and what did you do whilst you were with Isis? Hassan said “they trained us on how to kill. It was all religious-based”. Q: Who did you go there with and how many people were there with you? Hassan explained that he was recruited on his own but shared training with around 1,000 people and that they would spend three or four hours a day in the mosque.

Religion

Q: How did you get away from Isis and have they sent you to Europe to work for them? Hassan explained that Iraqi soldiers came into IS territory and told everyone to go. Some children had stayed, some died and some went back to their families, he said, adding that IS had not sent him to Europe to work for them. The interview continued following the arrival of a solicitor and an interpreter and some of the questions were put again. Q: Have you previously or are you part of any terrorist group ie Isis? Hassan replied that he was taken by force by IS and if he did not go (with them) they would have killed his uncle and brother. Q: Have you had any training with Isis and what did you do whilst you were with Isis? Hassan replied that he was forced to train with them on how to kill and they would teach him about religion and what Allah believed was right.
