Gulliver backs ‘hero’ Oldman

-

GARY OLDMAN'S son has called his own mother “sad and troubled” for her domestic abuse claims against Sunday's Best Actor Oscar-winner.

In an open letter Gulliver Oldman says his mum and Gary's ex-wife Donya Fiorentino, 50, has tainted the 59-year-old's win for his role as Winston Churchill in The Darkest Hour.

Quizzed on whether there was any truth to the claims, he refutes them, asking why his father would then have been awarded sole custody of him and brother Charlie following their bitter 2001 divorce. “It has been troubling and painful to see these allegations against my father being written about again, especially after this was all settled years ago,” he says. “In the case of my father there is only innocence. Custody of children is not given to a wife beater and under most circumstances, hardly ever a man. My having lived full time with my father should be in itself proof enough,” adds the 20-year-old who also calls his father his “hero” and “the man he one day hopes to become”.

Donya claimed in 2001 legal documents that Gary choked her in front of both boys while she tried to call the police and then hit her four times in the face with the telephone.

Gulliver, who hasn't spoken to his mother for seven years, goes on: “She's been a sad and very troubled person most of her life. My brother and I both have played the role of pawn… in a big game our mother has been desperately trying to play against our father. The only retort my father has had is the truth.”

Donya reignited her previous allegations in a recent interview and claimed Gary “stole” her children. He replied by calling her a fantasist.
