Firmino feels no fear
ROBERTO FIRMINO says Liverpool are not afraid of anyone in their pursuit of Champions League glory.
The draw for the quarter-finals is a week tomorrow and Liverpool striker Firmino said: “We don’t have anything to fear now. We will cause problems to others.”
Liverpool eased past Portuguese league leaders Porto on Tuesday in a goalless second leg at Anfield, securing a 5-0 aggregate win.
While Firmino admitted the stalemate was frustrating, he is confident Liverpool will regain the scoring thread in the next round.
“We did everything to score. There were chances, we played well and should have won,” he said. “I don’t think it’s a problem if you play well and don’t score when you are creating chances.”
Liverpool have urged football’s governing bodies to take “robust” action to tackle discrimination in the game after a racism allegation made by their young striker Rhian Brewster was dropped due to insufficient evidence. No action will be taken against Spartak Moscow’s Leonid Mironov after UEFA could not prove he had used discriminatory language towards Brewster in a UEFA Youth League last December. Mironov admitted swearing at Brewster but – despite the Liverpool player’s furious reaction on the pitch – no proof of racist comments was uncovered after five players from each side and the match official were interviewed, although UEFA conceded the allegation was made in good faith. “We accept the decision,” said a Liverpool spokesman. “The club is proud of the maturity, dignity and leadership Rhian has displayed in bringing focus to this issue. We encourage football’s governing bodies to facilitate the most robust processes possible to identify and tackle discrimination in the game at all ages.”
