Neville: Strictly business if we want to take flight

- From Steve Brenner in Orlando

PHIL NEVILLE wants the FA to put England first and send them off to games in style.

Neville’s hopes of landing his first piece of silverware in his new role were wrecked by an own-goal as the United States won the SheBelieves Cup.

Neville’s side needed only a draw but the Lionesses were unable to hold off the world champions.

Now it is back to World Cup qualifiers in April and the England manager wants his bosses to have a rethink ahead of next summer’s tournament.

He wants more time to prepare and an end to flying long distances in economy class.

“Flying business class is not my top priority but you always want better,” said Neville. “I’ve got to fight on behalf of my players to make sure they get the best.”

Neville also had a dig at US chiefs and said: “The organisers need to schedule the games better. Ourselves, Germany and France had to go to Columbus, when there are no direct flights there. We need to give ourselves the best opportunity to do well.”

England battled hard against the US but disaster struck in the 58th minute when an attempted clearance from Millie Bright went in off Karen Bardsley.

“We need to learn from these games, we have pitted ourselves against the best and that’s where we want to be,” said Neville.
