ARE WE TOO SOFT IN THE FACE OF BAD WEATHER?

-

Yes

THANK you Frederick Forsyth for putting in print a point that annoys me so much about the British attitude towards wintry conditions (“We’ll weather the weather”, March 9).

I live in Pennine Lancashire out of choice and relish snowy days as the early morning walk with my dog is made even more beautiful.

While it can be dicey getting off the drive, once I reach the A roads and motorway on my commute the highways are generally clear.

Offices closing at the drop of a snowflake really frustrates me. Just where is our bulldog spirit? Scott Wilkinson, Cliviger, Lancs

No

IT’S all very well for your columnist to sneer at Britons for erring on the side of caution during a cold snap.

I severely doubt that he is digging out his car at 6.30am and sitting on a gridlocked motorway just to reach work.

The majority in this country do make a decent effort but the recent “Beast from the East” snow storm however left people completely stumped.

Roads near me simply weren’t in a condition to be driven on safely as no sooner had the gritter been out, they were white again. Better to be safe than sorry. Eileen Outwood, Halifax, W Yorks
