Boost for passengers who suffer rail misery
TRAIN passengers who want to recoup costs for taxis and hotels when services are delayed or cancelled should “claim accordingly”, says the transport minister.
Jo Johnson said that some train passengers may suffer such additional losses – above the cost of a ticket – when train services are disrupted. But he added: “In law they do have certain rights as consumers.
“It’s right the conditions of travel are now making that clear to passengers, so that they can claim accordingly,” he said. However, the Rail Delivery Group (RDG), which represents train companies, insisted it was “very unlikely” such claims would be successful.
The RDG said there was “a very high legal hurdle to clear”.
