Armed And Deadly: Police UK, 10pm, Channel 5

In 2017, armed police officers across England and Wales were called upon to play their part in more than 16,000 operations, roughly 43 every single day. The cases which led to their involvement varied from apprehending marauding fugitives and bringing down organised criminals to defusing tense hostage situations and dealing with the increasing threat of terrorism. Tonight’s programme – the first of four instalments – follows operations carried out by a number of armed response teams, combining real footage from the missions with news coverage of the aftermath as well as testimonies from the officers themselves, including that of master marksman Tony Long (left).
