Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino preferred to take it one day at a time. “We need to wait until tomorrow because we will scan his ankle,” said Pochettino. “He suffered an injury that is to the same ankle he suffered before. I hope, we hope, it is not a massive issue. The decision to come off was between him and the doctor but he felt like when he landed and twisted his ankle that it was impossible to stay on the pitch.

“But he is positive. We are happy with the victory for the team, disappoint­ed with his problem, but if you are positive you start the recovery from now.”
