Which weight-loss DVDs are fit for purpose?

- By Mark Reynolds

THE world of celebrity exercise DVDs was in the spotlight yesterday after Gogglebox and I’m A Celebrity star Scarlett Moffatt saw her fitness programme called “a complete sham”.

She claimed to have lost three stone with a routine including a diet of 1,200 calories a day. But it was claimed in a Sunday paper she trained intensively at a bootcamp in Switzerland, while consuming just 700 calories a day. A source said in the article: “The DVD is a sham really. There’s no mention of the bootcamp where she climbed mountains and exercised for six hours a day.”

Scarlett, 27, is one of a host of celebrities with fitness DVDs and there are suspicions that some put weight on before the launch. Then they can show off a “miraculous” change when they simply return to their normal weight.

Stars reporting changes in body shape include actress Hannah Waterman and singer Coleen Nolan with their respective Body Blitz and Let’s Get Physical DVDs. There is no suggestion either have been dishonest.

But the pair came in the last 10 in a poll asking consumers how satisfied or dissatisfied they were with celebrityendorsed exercise routines.

Sports nutrition brand myprotein. co.uk asked simply about how satisfied they were with the DVDs. It quizzed 1,924 women aged 18-35 about their experience of celebrity fitness DVDs.

Then & Now by ex-EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy was rated the worst .

A reviewer said of it: “I hoped for a workout that felt manageable – but this is not it. It is very fast paced and there’s no explanation of what moves entail.”

However, some DVDs are popular. Davina McCall’s Toned In 10 was described as “answering the prayers of time-starved fitness lovers”.

Geordie Shore star Charlotte Crosby’s 3 Minute Belly Blitz became Britain’s biggest-selling workout DVD for 15 years in 2015 and Kym Marsh’s Power Sculpt was said to have powerful workouts for a “toned physique”.

A Trading Standards spokesman said people could contact the Citizens Advice consumer helpline on 03454 04 05 06 if they had any concerns. SCARLETT MOFFATT SuperSlim Me Plan – far from a fitness feast, claims proved thin gruel Power Sculpt – just the job for a toned physique, said fitness fiends Then & Now – judged as much use as a broken treadmill CHARLOTTE CROSBY 3 Minute Belly Blitz – best seller and still a top choice HANNAH WATERMAN Body Blitz – fat loss claims failed to convince punters
