Ken Dodd gave the gift of Happiness to a tickled nation
HOW sad I was to learn that Sir Ken Dodd has died. He was truly the last of the great comedians who learnt their trade through personal contact with the audience (“Ken Dodd dead: Comedy legend dies aged 90 less than two weeks after hospital discharge”, March 12).
He had his audience in gales of laughter without resorting to smut or innuendo or embarrassing them with dubious jokes.
Ken exuded love and happiness which he wanted to share with us all, he wanted to make us love each other and live life to the full. It says a lot that he died in the house where he was born.
I had the pleasure of seeing him twice in pantomime and both times were unforgettable.
His theme song Happiness really summed up his life and to say he will be greatly missed is an understatement. There will never be another Doddy but there will be laughter in paradise. Jill Basten, Headley Down, Hants
