30 years for monster who executed a mum at store

Knifeman ‘rotten to core’ for killing ex-partner’s daughter

- By Paul Jeeves

A JILTED lover who took revenge on his ex-partner by stabbing her daughter to death in a “cold-blooded public execution” at a supermarket was jailed for life yesterday.

Neville Hord, 44, was branded “a monster” by a judge who told him he must serve at least 30 years and would probably never be released.

Plumber Hord repeatedly stabbed Jodie Willshire, 30, in the Aldi store where she worked in Skipton, North Yorks, in front of shocked Christmas shoppers, including children, on December 21 last year.

Bradford Crown Court heard how he meticulously planned the brutal attack for two weeks.

He armed himself with two knives, an axe, a bolt-firing pistol crossbow, a lump hammer, saw and cable ties. He even attempted to buy a gun.

Peter Moulson QC, prosecuting, called Jodie’s murder a “coldblooded public execution perpetrated for the purpose of revenge”.

Father-of-two Hord had blamed his victim for the break-up of his relationship with her mother Nicole Dinsdale, 49.

Jodie was working in an aisle and smiled at Hord as their eyes met but he then pulled out a knife, stabbing her 16 times in the head, neck and body.

Shoppers and staff raced to try and save her, pinning Hord to the ground and wrapping his arms and legs in clingfilm and a belt to try and restrain him until police arrived.

Jodie’s husband Malcolm, 36, arrived at the store as paramedics desperately treated his bloodsoaked wife but the mother of-one died at the scene 45 minutes later.

Following his arrest Hord, from Bradford, confessed his guilt telling officers: “It’s all her fault, she is to blame – her daughter.”

The self-employed thug was on bail after being arrested and charged with breaking Ms Dinsdale’s arm during a fierce 3am row at her home on November 25. His violence had prompted the end of their volatile 15-month relationship.

Hord had been due to appear before Bradford magistrates on a domestic violence charge the day after he killed Jodie.

Ms Dinsdale told police Hord had threatened her daughter’s life.

Days before her death Jodie sent a friend a text, writing: “Apparently he’s going to kill me.”

Hord, who admitted murder, had a previous history of violence against the mother of his two sons, the court heard. She said he regularly pinned her against the wall and yanked her hair but was careful never to leave “visible marks”.

Warning Hord there was a “high probability” he would never be released from jail, Judge Jonathan Durham Hall told him: “You are, sadly, truly terribly rotten to the core. You sentenced her, in your mind, to death.” He called the killing “a case of chilling depravity”.
