Morgan dreaming of an unlikely double

- Peter Edwards

WES MORGAN would love to complete an astonishing dream double by lifting the FA Cup.

The Leicester skipper stunned the footballing world when he raised aloft the Premier League trophy two years ago.

The 34-year-old knows that moment is etched in history forever, but now he has one eye on Wembley as Leicester tackle Chelsea tomorrow with an FA Cup semifinal place at stake. “Do I dream of lifting the FA Cup? Yeah I do. It is a big competition and goes down in history,” he said.

“Many of the big teams dream of getting their hands on that trophy. It would be great.”

Morgan says that while the thrill of being crowned champions in front of Leicester’s own fans was magnificent, the enormity of it all might not sink in until his playing days are over.

“The title win seems a long time ago now – great memories, and when I retire I can probably reflect on it,” he said.

“But I am still playing football now and want to concentrate on the next game, which is Chelsea. The FA Cup is a big competition and everyone would love to play in a cup final and ultimately lift the trophy. It is every kids’ dream to lift that cup.

“We are in a good position. Hopefully we can get there.”

Morgan firmly believes the stars were aligned for their fairy-tale title victory.

Now he hopes fate can deal the Foxes a similar hand and help them plot a route to a Wembley final and win the FA Cup for the first time in the club’s history.

“Once you get past this stage it is the semi-finals, so we want to put on a good display and progress,” he said.

“We know what we can do on our day at home and we should be full of confidence.

“We have the prospect of going through to the semi-finals and getting to Wembley. It would be nice to add that to the CV – an FA Cup final.”
