‘Biscuit brew’ could spell the end to dunking

- By Paul Jeeves

A PERFECT brew for tea lovers with a sweet tooth has been created using a special blend that tastes exactly like tea and biscuits.

For years tea drinkers have not only pondered over what type of biscuit to enjoy with their cuppa – they have also fretted about the impact on their waistline.

But now boffins at Yorkshire Tea have devised a unique flavouring to replicate the taste of a freshly dunked digestive without running the risk of crumbs in your lap.

The new tea, which is being launched in supermarkets this week, is recommended to be enjoyed with a dash of milk but can equally be taken plain.

Experts who cooked-up the concoction at Yorkshire Tea’s parent company Taylors of Harrogate hope the new biscuit brew, which is gluten free, will provide satisfaction without the added calories no matter what time of day it is drunk.

It is made from the standard blend with heightened Assam

which has been crafted alongside a tailored granule with the notes of biscuit flavouring for extra maltiness.

Tea innovation manager Kate Halloran said: “Biscuits are so often linked to tea we thought why not just make life easier and put the flavours together in one delicious brew?

“We’re offering all the happiness of tea and biscuits – just without the biscuit and any of the potential pitfalls that come with it. Gone are the dunking-fail days of biscuits too big for your mug, soggy crumbs at the bottom of your brew or the mid-dunk breakage – we’re embarking on a new era of biscuit-flavoured joy.”

Although the taste is based on a modest digestive, a nationwide poll conducted last year crowned the ginger nut as the “King of the Dunkers”.

OUR bog standard cuppa is an endangered species such is the variety of tea on offer. Yorkshire Tea has developed a brew that tastes like tea plus a soggy biscuit. It is intended to appeal to slimmers. Perhaps McVitie’s will retaliate with a biscuit that tastes like a cup of tea.
