Cyber security platform gets a grip on intercepts

- By Maisha Frost

MAILOCK, a new secure messaging platform designed to meet the higher General Data Protection Regulation standards coming into force in May, has just been unveiled by British cyber security firm Beyond Encryption.

It covers protection for sensitive emails, documents and messaging apps. Senders can verify their recipient’s identity, as well as ensure no other party can intercept the communication, using their existing systems and addresses.

They can also track if messages have been opened by authenticated recipients, revoke message access and get a full audit trail of delivery.

Founder Paul Holland said: “Mailock safeguards senders and recipients alike. Normal email is at best risky and at worst illegal from a data security perspective. With cyber attacks estimated to cost UK businesses more than £30billion a year, the potential financial implications, image damage and business interruptions are huge.”

Pricing for businesses is based on volume use, but consumers can access the service from £30 a year.

Research from data security firm Clearswift shows that malicious links within emails are considered the biggest threat to businesses, followed by lax staff attitudes to sharing usernames, passwords and USBs. Clearswift’s Dr Guy Bunker said: “Technology should focus on information leaks and give feedback to the sender to inform them that they have violated policy.”
