Make a change for the better

-

EVERY woman will experience menopause. It is something that can be helped but not halted. It usually affects women in their late 40s or early 50s and is triggered as the body drops its production of the hormone oestrogen.

Around 80 per cent of women experience symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, insomnia and lack of libido that usually last around four years but which can last up to 14 years.

The onset of the menopause has been described by some as a broken thermostat, manifesting itself in uncontrollable hot flushes.

Recent research suggests that women are too embarrassed to talk to their doctors and so are missing out on important advice. Lifestyle changes can be suggested to ease symptoms, such as: EAT WELL Stick to a diet rich in beans, pulses, fruit and vegetables. Nutritionists advise avoiding stimulating and sugary foods such as coffee, spicy meals and chocolate that can lead to hot flushes and tiredness. EXERCISE Even a good walk can keep your metabolism and cardiovascular system healthy. Exercise also increases levels of serotonin, responsible for the regulation of mood and sleep, and which is also important for memory function and bone protection. RELAX Too much stress can have a negative effect on health and wellbeing generally and can worsen symptoms such as hot flushes. As little as 15-20 minutes a day practising yoga, body balance or simply lying flat while relaxing your muscles and breathing deeply can help.

However it can sometimes require more than self-help to make a positive difference. While the right foods can help, a dietary supplement can be important.

One way to fight back against the menopause is Promensil, utilising the healthy benefits of red clover. The clover’s natural herbal extract is high in isoflavones (natural plant oestrogens) that mimic the action of oestrogen and are widely used to help control hot flushes and night sweats.

It is possible to get isoflavones through diet (items such as chickpeas and soya milk) but you would need an awful lot to get the recommended daily intake.

Promensil is truly an international health boost, the red clover being grown in the green fields of Germany and the active extract being produced in Switzerland.

It is the only menopause food supplement to be backed by more than 15 years of scientific research, a clinically-proven natural alternative for managing the menopause, especially those who do not want to take HRT or those who have stopped HRT.

And there are products with different strengths for each stage of the menopause, and even a cooling spray to offer relief for those annoying hot flushes and night sweats.

Promensil Double Strength 30s was voted Best Menopause Support Product at Boots Vitamin Awards 2018.

It may not be possible to cure the menopause but it is possible to calm it… INFORMATION: Promensil is available from Boots stores and Boots.com
