You plonker! Driver is caught with Del Boy ID

- By Michael Knowles

A CHEEKY motorist looked a right plonker after being pulled over by police and handing them a driving licence in the name of Del Boy from Only Fools And Horses.

The dodgy licence had a picture of the TV character, played by David Jason, and said it only allowed him to drive a three-wheeler.

However, the licence owner was driving a green Renault Megane, not a Reliant Robin like Del in the long-running comedy.

The car has now been seized by police, who said the licence “wasn’t produced in an attempt to deceive”.

Officers stopped the car on the A47 in Terrington St Clement, Norfolk, on Wednesday evening.

They were left bemused by the licence, in the name of “Del Trotter”, but soon saw the funny side.

Officers later tweeted about the incident, and even threw in a couple of Del Boy’s renowned faux-French phrases, including “bonnet de douche” and “pot pourri”.

They said the licence had not been intended to fool them into believing the motorist was Del Trotter and that the driver had just been horsing around. The incident “made us laugh”, they

added. Del Boy is often regarded as one of the greatest comedy characters in the history of TV and is an iconic figure in British culture.

He was the lead character on the entire run of Only Fools And Horses from 1981-1993, and in various revivals in the years since.

Earlier this month Thames Valley Police were handed a driving licence in the name of US cartoon character Homer Simpson.
