Peter Kay breaks silence to save lives
PETER KAY is back on social media – for the first time since announcing he was cancelling all future projects because of “unforeseen family circumstances”.
“Exciting news,” he wrote on Twitter. “A charity screening of new Peter Kay’s Car Share episodes will be held at Blackpool Opera House on Saturday April 7. Tickets on sale Saturday at 9am.”
Fans attending the event will see four episodes of the hit UK sitcom including the premiere of two brand new ones, Car Share: Unscripted and the series finale. It’s all in aid of the The Lily Foundation, of which the Bolton-born comedian says: “It is an inspiring charity that helps improve the lives of children with mitochondrial disease. I’ve had first-hand experience of the foundation’s work and I’m proud to raise both awareness and much-needed funds to help with the inspiring work they provide to children and their families.”
Last year Peter raised almost £150,000 from two stand-up gigs, which went towards the £410,000 cost of what tragically proved to be unsuccessful pioneering immunotherapy treatment in Germany for a terminally ill woman. It was after hearing of the plight of 37-year-old mum-of-three Polly Haydock, who was given just days to live, after being diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Peter even recorded a video message for Polly to watch from her hospital bed, saying: “It is nothing for me to put two nights on but it makes a big difference to the cause for Polly.” Sadly Polly passed away in August.
