Mum crushed by bricks on school run dies

- By Michael Knowles and Joshua Haigh

A YOUNG mother crushed by falling bricks just moments after dropping her son at school died in hospital yesterday.

Doctors battled to save Michaela Boor, 29, after the accident in Tower Hamlets, east London, on Tuesday.

But police confirmed the jewellery designer, who only recently got engaged, died in hospital.

Horrified witnesses rushed to her aid after the load of bricks on a pallet attached to a 70ft crane fell as she walked underneath with a friend.

Ms Boor, whose birthday was on Wednesday, had just taken her three-year-old son to school near the building site.

A neighbour told the Daily Express: “I can’t believe it. The road should have been cordoned off. It shouldn’t have been allowed to happen in the first place.

“It’s near a school. It could have just as easily been a kid walking under it.”

Another local said: “I feel so awful for her family, to be here one minute then gone the next it’s just so awful I can’t even think about it.

“Someone’s got to answer for what happened.”

A friend of Ms Boor added: “A brick hit the other mum’s hand. She managed to jump out of the way, but Michaela got caught under it.”

Richard Higgins, chairman of Higgins Homes which is responsible for the Bow Corner development where the incident occurred, said: “Our thoughts remain with Michaela’s family and friends at this exceptionally sad time.”
