Police find bullet at scene of Tanesha shooting

- By John Twomey

A BULLET fired at murder victim Tanesha Melbourne was found embedded in a house yesterday.

A forensic officer extracted the small-calibre shell which was sent for analysis. It is believed to be one of three bullets fired at the 17-year-old as she chatted with friends on Monday night.

Yesterday, Tanesha’s grieving mother Sharon made an emotional return to the spot where her daughter died in her arms.

Ms Melbourne and Tanesha’s younger sister laid flowers and were joined at the scene in Tottenham, north London, by other members of the family.

Tanesha’s aunt Rita said: “She was a lovely girl.

“She wasn’t involved in gangs. She was innocent in all this.”

Silence

Lisa Robinson, the teenager’s godmother, wept as she laid her floral tribute. She said: “Tanesha could put a smile on your face and had a big heart. She was caring, active and full of life and what’s happened here is a tragedy.

“Tanesha has gone too soon and to be honest they need to put the police back on the street to stop things like this happening.

“Everyone might not be keen about stop-andsearch but if it’s a measure that can help reduce crime or save a life then until they can put other measures in then it’s what they should do.”

According to police, a wall of silence is hampering the hunt for Tanesha’s killer.

Detectives say young witnesses may be too scared of reprisals to come forward and reveal the gunman’s identity.

Detective Inspector Beverley Kofi, of Scotland Yard’s murder squad, said: “We are appealing to anybody who witnessed the incident, or who in the hours since this shocking murder are privy to information that could help us find those responsible.

“We implore you to do the right thing and come forward.”
