Sinatra memories go under the hammer

- By Josh Saunders

Sinatra, right, and the sports jacket that he wore when interviewed on TV by presenter Larry King in 1988 HAIR clippings, honorary sheriff badges and oil paintings are among a huge haul of Frank Sinatra memorabilia being auctioned.

The personal items – formerly owned by Ol’ Blue Eyes – will go under the hammer at Heritage Auctions later this month and could fetch more than £22,000.

The collection comes from a family who worked for the Sinatras for four decades. It includes a sports jacket he wore when interviewed on TV by Larry King in 1988 as well as a tuxedo and several dress shirts.

Also up for grabs is a collection of artwork including a self-portrait for £1,400 as well as a signed hand-drawn Christmas card that features a clown for £2,100.

These items will all appear alongside handfuls of Sinatra’s hair, saved from when the singer had a haircut aged 78. It has a guide price of £1,400.

Margaret Barrett, director of Heritage Auctions’ entertainment and music memorabilia, said: “There’s really no one else who quite had the swagger that Frank Sinatra did – he was the ultimate cool guy and these are items only someone close in proximity to him would have. “Items include a pool cue which is pretty beautiful because it is custommade and inlaid with mother of pearl.” It also had his initials FAS at the end of the handle. “The greetings card was also handpainted by him and signed, so that’s why it’s a little more expensive,” she added. Other items include a golf-themed ashtray, spectacles and silver cigarette box, pictured left, inscribed Frank and Mia (ex-wife Mia Farrow). Sinatra, who died in 1998, aged 82, started singing as a teenager and sold more than 150 million records. The auction is being organised by Heritage Auctions, of Dallas, Texas.
