- By Mark Reynolds

SHE may be in her late forties, yet she sports a figure that many women half her age would be proud of.

Now TV presenter Melanie Sykes has revealed the secret to a perfect body in middle age – and it is all about Vitamin D.

Melanie, 47, who is reportedly dating Ryder Cup golfer Martin Kaymer, said her toned and beautiful body was down to combining exercise with good nutrition.

She said: “Eating a balanced diet, with all of the recommended vitamins and minerals, is an important way to ensure your body is getting the nourishment it needs, so you can feel and look good.

“Living in England it is so easy to miss out on the ‘sunshine vitamin’ D.”

The mother-of-two spoke out as part of a push by Kellogg’s to encourage people to consume more vitamin D.

She added: “My kids and I often start our day with a bowl of cereal in order to have a better start.

“We also try to eat fresh foods, including fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, eggs and nuts to make sure our diet is rich with vitamins and minerals.

“I also hardly ever drink – it is such a rarity for me. I cut out alcohol several years ago and have stuck to it ever since.

Balance

“The other thing I try to limit is my sugar intake, although I will not restrict myself and will happily treat myself to something sweet every now and then.

“Really, it’s all just about that balance with life and food – especially as a mum.”

The Lancashire-born presenter is said to be enjoying a long-term romance with German golfer Kaymer, 33, though neither has yet spoken publicly about it.

He is currently playing at the US Masters in Augusta.

However, while they have avoided speaking about it, for more than three years they have popped up at the same places at the same time, landing up at a variety of sun-kissed locations around the globe.

In the latest “coincidence” Melanie teased her Instagram followers with shots of herself lounging on the Emirates’ golden shores – as Kaymer competed in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

Melanie, who first shot to fame in the mid-1990s fronting the Boddingtons beer ad campaign, has also not commented after the singer Olly Murs recently confirmed that he had enjoyed a brief fling with her some time ago.

After reporting on The Big Breakfast she presented alongside Des O’Connor in Today With Des And Mel in 2003 and later fronted ITV food show Let’s Do Lunch, with Italian celebrity chef Gino D’Acampo.
