Sorry guys, but prefer best pal

Record £100,000 for two Star Wars toys

- By Anil Dawar

TWO rare Star Wars toys of Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi have sold for a record £100,000.

The plastic action figures were made by toy manufacturer Kenner in 1978, a year after the release of the first Star Wars film.

The 4-inch figures each came with a telescopic light sabre, a flimsy strip of brightly coloured plastic that extended to double its size.

But bosses at Kenner quickly decided to simplify the weapons and only a limited number of the originals were made.

Today only a handful of the Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi versions exist. Luke Skywalker figures are more common.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi figure sold for £55,000 at auction in the US while Darth Vader went for £46,000. Both easily beat the previous record for a Star Wars toy – £26,000 for a rare Boba Fett bounty hunter in 2016. MORE than half of women prefer their best friend to their husband, a survey reveals.

Researchers undertook a nationwide poll of women in long-term relationships and discovered that when it comes to having fun, girlfriends score higher than husbands or partners.

According to the findings, some of the reasons given for preferring pals were that no topic of conversation was off limits and they are more fun to go wild with when together.

A quarter of women find their friends less irritating than their spouse while a similar number say they have a better sense of humour.

Almost half said they can talk about sex more easily with friends, while more than half said they prefer discussing health concerns with their female friends.

Nearly half would always turn to their best friend to discuss parenting issues, rather than their partner.

Problems over money and hang-ups about body issues were also easier to chat through with girlfriends than husbands or boyfriends, the poll of 1,000 women by health spa Champneys found.

The average female has told her best friend two secrets her husband or boyfriend knows absolutely nothing about.
