Hamilton still mad over Max

-

LEWIS HAMILTON has fired another shot in his row with Max Verstappen by saying the Dutchman’s immaturity is costing Red Bull valuable points in their faltering championship chase.

Hamilton lost ground to Sebastian Vettel in the title race after finishing third at the Bahrain Grand Prix while his rival won a second straight race.

It could have been worse for the Mercedes driver. Verstappen, who also crashed out of qualifying, was forced to retire following his gung-ho lunge, but Hamilton was able to carry on and later labelled the 20-year-old a “d***head”.

Red Bull principal Christian Horner cited the coming together as “hard racing”, and suggested such incidents draw fans.

But Hamilton said: “It is interesting to hear Christian has said that because they have a car which should be getting good results, but through inexperience, or not mature decisions, they are not. Max should have had a decent race. If I was in their car, I would have got points.

“It is easy to get ahead of yourself and forget to respect the other guys that you are racing against. While he has fantastic pace, as youngsters we do not always make the right decision.” BRITISH cyclist James Shaw has led the tributes to Michael Goolaerts, who died after crashing in the Paris-Roubaix classic.

The 23-year-old died in hospital on Sunday after suffering cardiac arrest.

“I’d have loved to have said thank you to him for helping me out,” said Shaw, who rode with Goolaerts for the Lotto-Soudal under-23 team in 2015.

“He’s a great loss to cycling. He was one of the most pleasant people to be around I’d ever met.”
