My life as a fairytale mum by Amal Clooney, the Vogue cover girl

- By Joshua Haigh

Amal, seen in New York, opened up about life with George and twins PARENTS do not get much more famous than Amal and George Clooney.

But to their baby twins, they are simply “mamma” and “dada”.

Lebanese-British barrister Amal, 40, and George, 56, have spoken candidly to US Vogue about their marriage and life with 10-month-old Alexander and Ella.

Amal said that despite George struggling to juggle his film work with family life, the Oscar winner worked double-time to ensure that both children’s first words paid tribute to the love of his life.

“We’ve had some ‘mammas’ and ‘dadas,’ but George was careful to ensure that ‘mamma’ was the first word,” she said.

While their life may seem like a blissful fairytale now, Amal – who poses in a photoshoot for celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz – admitted that the idea of settling down and starting a family was a distant dream a few short years ago.

Different

“It’s the one thing in life that I think is the biggest determinant of happiness, and it’s the thing you have the least control over,” she explained. “Are you going to meet this person?”

“I was 35 when I met him. It wasn’t obvious that [marriage] was going to happen for me. I wasn’t willing or excited about the idea of getting married or having a family in the absence of that.”

However, just five years down the line, Amal and her husband are gearing up to celebrate their fourth wedding anniversary in September.

George, who was married to actress Talia Balsam in his late 20s, added: “I’d pretty much committed to never marrying again.

“But then I started dating Amal, and I immediately knew that something was very different.”

On a romantic safari trip in Africa, George claimed he had an epiphany while snapping a picture of Amal in the wilderness. “Some giraffes walked up to her,” he recalled. “They just came out of the blue. I took a picture and she was smiling.

“I said to my buddy Ben, ‘You know, I think I should ask her to marry me.’ And Ben said, ‘I think that’s a good idea.’”

Much has been made of Amal’s love of high fashion recently rather than her work as a human rights lawyer but she said: “There’s no reason why lawyers can’t be fun, or actresses can’t be serious”. With the #MeToo movement shaking up Hollywood, Amal went on to reveal that it’s given her hope that she won’t have to worry about her daughter Ella in the future.

“We’re in a situation where a predator feels less safe and a professional woman feels more safe, and that’s where it needs to be,” she added.
