Queen reveals Duke is ‘doing very well’
THE Queen yesterday told a wellwisher that Prince Philip was “doing very well” as he received his first family visitor after 10 days in hospital.
Philip, 96, went in on April 3 and medical experts initially predicted he was likely to stay in for five or six days.
Princess Anne yesterday went to see the Duke of Edinburgh at the private King Edward VII Hospital in London after his hip replacement operation last week. After visiting him for 50 minutes, she said he was “on top form”.
The Queen, 91, who is said to worry she will disrupt medical care for other patients if she visits a hospital, has been in touch with her husband but has not visited him yet.
Yesterday, she was on hand to mark the 60th anniversary of the King George VI Day Centre in Windsor, which her mother helped to fund.
The Queen, who wore a purple wool tweed dress and coat by Karl Ludwig and a hat by Angela Kelly, watched elderly keep-fit enthusiasts being put through a workout at the centre, which she opened in 1958.
One royal fan gave her a framed picture of herself and Philip to cheer up the Duke.
As Glenn Bushell gave her the photo of the couple at Royal Ascot, he asked how the Duke was.
“He’s doing very well, thank you,” she said, before looking at the photo and adding: “Oh, that’s a very nice picture.”
