Ed rails about homeless slur

-

A FURIOUS Ed Sheeran has rejected claims that he is installing a set of railings around his north London home to prevent homeless people from sleeping outside it. It was reported that he had submitted plans to erect five-foot cast iron railings outside his £9million converted factory to stop rough sleepers from bedding down in front of it. However, the Lego House singer angrily dismissed the suggestion. Ed has admitted roughsleeping himself before his meteoric rise to fame. He penned his song Homeless while dossing by a heating duct at an arch near Buckingham Palace. The 27-year-old wrote on Instagram: “I have done lots of work in the past for Crisis and Shelter and would never build railings outside my home for that reason.” The only reason he submitted the plans was to gain a bit more privacy. Over the years he has been committed to homeless charities and his 2011 breakout hit The A Team was based on his experience volunteering at a homeless shelter over the Christmas period. In 2016 he backed the Young and Homeless Helpline appeal set up by Centrepoint and last year, while filming a segment for Comic Relief, he paid the hotel costs for Liberian street children until they found permanent accommodation. According to reports, his building agent Paul Smith wrote in the planning application that one of the reasons for installing the railings is “preventing opportunities for rough sleeping”. However Ed's spokesperson responded: “This is a standard planning application, which was not written by Ed, and it is not reflective of Ed's views or feelings on homelessness.”
